a dog in the manger
alguém que se não poder ter algo, não quer que mais ninguém tenha. Vulg nem fode, nem sai de cima;
A 'dog in the manger' is someone who prevents others from making use of something he cannot use himself.
A dog in the manger is like a Scrooge, someone who has something and doesn't use it, or doesn't need it, but won't give it to others either:
Why be a dog in the manger? If you aren't going to use those tickets, let someone else have them.
It could be a dog in the manger type deal - if I can't have it, neither can YOU.
It is just a 'dog-in-the-manger- attitude: ie. Not wanting the straw themselves, they don't want anyone else to have it either.
You are a dog in the manger, you left Paul, but now whenever Paul tries to date someone, you get in the way.
